Our posting on alt.music.prince - "What was the Simpsons' best Prince reference ever?" -
got a pile of responses. Here are some.

BEST EVER

When Milhouse tearfully embraces his Shelbyville double, he blubbers
"So this is what it sounds like when doves cry."
(From Dakota4849)

When Bart was trying to find out when the auditions for the "Radioactive Man"
movie were going to be, he went to the Comic Book Store Geek.  The Geek said,
"I can have that answer for you in precisely 30 seconds" and went to his
computer. He got on the 'net, and they started showing the people
with whom he was connecting.
The last one was Prince ... surfing the 'net.  It was classic! -RodeoSchro

My vote goes to the episode when Homer became leader of the
Stonecutters. According to the "Secret World History" book he's reading,
the Declaration of Independence was signed, and then followed by the
solemn words:
"And, a nation is born. Now, let us party, like 'twere 1799!" - Gavin R Smith

Here's my fave... when Apu says "For the next 5 minutes I'm going to party like
it's on sale for $19.99!"
Hey, just thought of this one...  On one of the Halloween Specials, Bart's
costume for their halloween party is the outfit that Prince wore when he
played Christopher Tracy in Under The Cherry Moon!  - MissTery7
It was really Charlie Chaplin. The movie, Chaplin, w/ Robert Downey, Jr was huge @ da time. - Stasha
Actually, Stasha is wrong too. The character Bart was dressed as was actually the character "Alex"
from Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. - David Nolda

GUEST ARTIST
The following is from MissTery7:

Rumor has it that there was supposed to be a Simpsons
episode where P guest starred in the works. I think I read this on the
Dolphonic Experience website. The site said that the script for the episode was
written and everything, but P was being difficult  (what a surprise ;-) )  and
wanted to change some of the dialogue or something .  He apparently got pissed
off and left in the middle of the recording session.  The site also said that
Matt  wanted P to write some music for the show. He supposedly did, but  it
couldn't be used because it was too risqué (for FOX,  oh come now!!! ;-) )

Prince meets the Simpsons.

AND THIS JUST IN...

Prince's alter egos.....Martin Prince & Nelson Muntz.
And the episode where Homer joins the Navy: a man is telling his story of
discharge to Grampa.  His war injury occured when the umbrella in his
Mayte drink poked his eye out! - Stasha & Roman

...on 11/1/00 they aired a new Halloween special. There is a Prince reference
in the scene where Homer saves Bart & Lisa from the witch,
who lives in a gingerbread house.
Homer eats through the gingerbread walls & says "Mmmmm.....Sugarwalls".
Gotta love it. - Stasha

SELECTED REFERENCES FROM LAST TIME

Kent Brockman's TV show " on Springfield" flashed up the Symbol
in a list of names captioned "The following celebrities were arrested."

The annoying smart fat kid in Lisa's class is called Martin Prince.

A sign in the Springfield zoo reads "Emu Experience".

In 2 Dozen and 1 Greyhounds:
the puppy named Prince & the puppy formerly known as Prince.

After an excessive amount of drugs and/or alcohol in Homerpalooza, Otto's shoes talk to him.
"Don't worry, we won't hurt U. We only want 2 have some fun."

After drinking a super squishee, Milhouse says "We're gonna party like it's 1999".

In the "Apu gets married" episode, one of Apu's studly haircuts is the Kid's
hairdo from Graffiti Bridge. Later Homer tells Apu, "You've got 7 hours. 7."
(See " Want 2 Melt With U")

In a dream in one of the Halloween specials, Homer imagines raspberry
& cream donuts walking down a catwalk.
"Mmm... raspberry and cream..." thinks Homer.

In the "Mr Burns's Teddy Bear" story, Mr Burns is forced to grovel
to the Simpsons. "Simpson, look what U've reduced me 2," says Morris -
uh, we mean Mr Burns. He snaps his fingers, and
Jerome - we mean Smithers - does the grovelling for him.

The early 80s are referred to as
the time when "The artist formerly known
as Prince was currently known as Prince." (Yeah, that's how we think of them, too.)
