This is a first for me, Nik usually writes all the blog posts but I did this wedding on my own so it’s all up to me…. sorry in advance.
I had great light at the Mercure in Port Macquarie where the girls where getting ready, I find myself there a lot now. They have brilliant open rooms and a large roof top reception area which are both great for the way we love to take photos.

It is so easy to do your job when you walk into a room that is relaxed and well organised, Ashlee had every thing in hand so while Kristy-Lee (owner of Krisilize Hair ) was finishing the hair it gave me a chance to use the natural light to get some great detail shots.
Ashlee and David chose Cassegrains for the ceremony, which is another one of my favourites. The formal garden and the cellar are visually very dynamic places to shoot. It’s great to see how much the place changes. Every time I go there seem to be a new place to shoot.

The ceremony was lovely as they shared the start of their married life together with daughter Eady.
Due to some bad weather (which I love, make great photos, don’t be afraid of it) we sped up our plans, and did beach and town green photos quickly in very low light. Back to the roof top at the Mercure Centro and had fun with a great band “Mum says Rock” see you at the next wedding guys.
I hope I haven’t been too boring to read, I’m the technical guy, the one Nik turns to when she has an idea like “lets have a blog on our website…. make that happen.” yes dear. She is usually the blog writer, a great photographer and I love her heaps.

I love listening to the speeches. It is when we really get to hear how the bride and groom met. All the fine details are told and usually there is someone taking credit for setting the two up.

During the speeches we found out that Matthew and Kylie both lived in Taree at the same time yet ventured further afield to find the night life. It was during of the night adventures in Forster that Matt and Kylie were introduced to each other and as they say, the rest is history.

This is a couple that are perfectly matched. We have only had the pleasure of knowing them as they planned their wedding day but from those few brief encounters, Jason and I could both see one very content couple. Their wedding day was perfect. It suited them, it showed their love and everyone had a grin from ear to ear as they thoroughly enjoyed the day.

I love Kylies attention to detail. I love her planning. I love her researching.  She had a perfect red love heart balloon in the car with them and I almost squealed with delight when I found out she wanted to use it in their photos. She had seen one used before on the internet. The balloon photos are totally my style. My idol photographers use props like these in their photos and I have been hoping someone would totally get the idea and want that style for themselves. Thank you so much Kylie for letting me capture such perfect shots. xo

Yes it seems a little crazy but my fellow photographers will understand the feeling. The photography world gets completely insane and while everyone gets a break over Christmas and New Year, we work all the way through. Wedding season doesn’t really get a break until we hit the colder months now which means winter is the time for us to recharge, regroup and relax a little -  the same as starting the New Year.

We have just come back from our first family holiday. It is insane I know, but we don’t get the chance to get away. We actually rarely take lunch breaks so holidays are not heard of. Now the kids are getting older, I feel it is really important to have family time and that means just one week a year I plan to have the family holiday. This year we started the ball rolling with a trip to the Gold Coast. What an amazing time. It was exactly what was needed for us to get recharged.

Now we are back, we are straight back infront of the computer screens. Finishing off an incredibly huge number of portrait and baby shoots I didn’t get to edit before we left and the weddings. With that little recharge I am feeling superhuman and am getting work completed like never before !!  So blogging will resume. Winter is our time for catch up, to get all those jobs out while we have some free weekends (well sort of). The next 18 days we work straight but that’s cool because I have my “just come back from holiday” feeling and I am ready to tackle the work head on!

So to start the ball rolling, here is a sneak peek of a wedding that didn’t get to the blog before we left. This is Tracy and Christian’s wedding. They chose the gorgeous Bowers Cafe for their wedding and it is one of my favourite places. Especially for that smaller intimate wedding,  it is the perfect venue. Tracy looked absolutely stunning as you will see. Gorgeous hair, gorgeous makeup and a stunning gown. What an amazing bride. Not to forget handsome Christian of course. Just the perfect couple !!

Dear Blog,

Sixteen weddings in 8 weeks !!  That is the reason why I ignore you sometimes. After photographing a wedding there is;

2 hrs of downloading files to multiple hard drives, 3 hrs running through editing process for blog pics, 1 hr of resizing photos for blog, 8 hrs of colour management and editing for printing, 2 hrs getting album layout proofs designed, 1 hr sorting and putting photos into albums

That gives a grand total of 19 hours for one wedding from start to finish. Phew !! So you can imagine dear blog after 16 weddings in eight weeks I am very tired, very behind in blogging and do neglect you. We are going off on a break though and when I come back I will be back to fine form and ready to invest quality time into you. Let’s call it a ‘recharge and recovery’ and I can’t wait !!

One of  last weekends wedding was Katie & Joe’s amazing day. It felt like one big family gathering, well a massive family gathering with 165 people !! There were five couples who we have already photographed their weddings. Katie and Joe are so well loved by so many people. You could see the delight on everyones faces when Katie walked down the aisle. It was obvious that every person who was there holds both Katie and Joe very deeply in their heart.

With so many little ones in a bridal party you would think it would be chaos. The flowergirls and pageboys were the sweetest, most well behaved kids you could imagine. It is a credit to Katie and Joe, the bridal party and the parents of the kids. The littlies walked down the aisle so proudly and you could see they took their jobs very seriously.

Congrats Katie and Joe. Your wedding day went perfectly. It was honour to capture your day, you made it all so easy. xo

“Do you think it will rain?”

That was the words Jess said to me as she was getting into her gown. We all looked out the window and tried to sound convincing when we said it would pass by ceremony time. None of us knew what the weather was going to do and having a ceremony on Pilot Hill in Harrington in the rain didn’t seem like a great idea.

As we were driving out to Harrington the rain bucketed down. We knew there would have to be a change of plans but what was that going to be? There was no back up plan in Harrington and moving all the guests back to Taree would have severely delayed their day. That point in time is when you need a Dan in your family. Someone who convinces the lady in the Op Shop to open up the hall so the wedding can go ahead. PERFECT !!! I will publicly thank Dan and the Op Shop lady for making the ceremony happen. It all went perfectly, everyone stayed dry and by the time the ceremony was concluded the sun was out. Family photos back on the hill, how perfect.

Jess & Con thought outside the square and picked awesome vehicles for their bridal party. They had a fleet of super impressive golf mobiles. When they told me they had golf buggies I was skeptical about these things making it up Pilot Hill. I was very impressed when these mobiles rolled up to the hall and I never knew golfers had so much choice when it came to style on the course. Jess arrived in Pop’s pride and joy. The car that never makes it out of the shed except for those really special occasions. There was barely a dry eye when Pop stood there and cried tears of joy. To see his grandchildren in his car, still in perfect condition, it was all a little to much.

The day was perfect. Jess & Con are just stunning. With the most awesome bridal party, we had a great time capturing shots all around Crowdy. It hardly seems like work when everything is so easy. The shots speak for themselves.

Congratulations Con & Jess. You really planned an awesome wedding day. I loved every minute. xo

Here are the pics that I talked about below. They deserved a blog post all of their own.

This shoot is all about having fun. Doing things you wouldn’t normally on your wedding day and just enjoying the moment. The images speak for themselves.
