Pure perfection. I could talk forever about how perfect he is. He was the dream baby for me. He came in with a full belly and never woke up. Mum and Dad undressed him and he stayed asleep. I moved and poked and moulded him into shape and he still stayed asleep. He allowed me to get everything I had planned for and even some moves from the more advanced poses.

The biggest reason why he allowed me to do what we did is because he was just 6 days old. I can’t stress enough that the younger the baby is, the more perfect the shoot. They stay asleep, they loved to be curled and they are pure putty in your hands. I always ask my clients to let me know when they are due so I can pencil them in and save room. Like today, I have a newborn shoot at lunchtime. Mum rang the other day telling me she had a bub who was a week old and I rescheduled some other clients to get bubby in. I always will make room for my newborns because it is essential to get them as young as possible.

Enjoy these photos. I Adore them with a captial A. They make me smile, they warm the heart and they make you appreciate how perfect a newborn is and how that stage doesn’t last long enough.

I am super excited so I have to share with you straight away. IT’S A GIRL !!!!!!!

Blog followers will know that I have been sharing in Skii and Jacob’s experience of bringing their little bundle into the world. You will remember her pregnancy post (if you want a refresher click here), now I have an update that the surprise package was indeed a little girl.

This little one already has a schedule of her own and she arrived fashionably late, exactly 2 weeks overdue. On Friday Skii let me know they were inducing her and I had my fingers crossed extra tight that she either came quickly or held off as yesterday we photographed the wedding of Matthew and Kylie. Throughout their magical wedding day I had my phone close to see how things were going. Just before the bridal waltz I had the call that bub was almost here and a wonderful Kylie told me to hurry quickly, I didn’t realise she had been following Skii’s journey as well !!

So while Jason finished photographing their formalities I made the entrance to the hospital and exactly 18 minutes later little Bella Rose arrived to the world. I absolutely love this facet of my job. It is not work at all, it is amazing, it is breath taking and it is emotional every single time. I know birth photography is not for everyone and when I mention I do it I get a very mixed reaction, this however is why I love it. These images are priceless.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Skii & Jacob for allowing me to document Bella’s arrival to the world. You are both amazing parents already and she is unbelievably gorgeous. For the blog followers there will be an interview with Skii to come telling you her side of the story but that will come in due time. Right now this new family are basking in pure joy.

This is Skii. She is a mum-in-waiting. Skii’s partner is Jake. He is also a dad-in-waiting. Skii is due to have their first baby very soon, hopefully very very soon :-) . She has allowed me to share her journey with you. From belly to an active one year old, I am going to document and share with you their baby. I am incredibly excited about everything that lies ahead. I am even more excited that I can show you just what I see, the beauty of life.

After each photo shoot I am going to share with you Skii’s experience. I hope you enjoy our journey. You will be able to see how her little bub grows from now. From belly, birth, newborn and all the first year you are going to be able to share in this little bundles life. I hope you are just as excited !!

An interview with Skii:

1. How many weeks were you had your photos taken?
36 weeks
2. What has your pregnancy been like?
I have been blessed with a very smooth pregnancy, very little morning sickness and no dramas as of yet (touch wood).
the whole 9 months has gone way too fast.
3. Do you know what sex the baby is or do you have a feeling?
We both decided we would like it to be a surprise so we didn’t find out.
However we do have a little feeling it may be a girl, we will find out soon enough I guess.
4.. What made you decide to have belly shots done?
I have always admired the work Nikki and Jason have done and why not have such an important and exciting time in ours lives documented so beautifully?
5. Was Jake excited about being photographed?
Of course, he definately doesn’t shy away from the camera!
and he really wanted to be a part of the shoot.
6. What sort of photos did you have in mind that you wanted? Did you want a particular style?
I mainly wanted something that would capture us at this stage in our lives and for it to be very natural.
I trusted Nikki’s ideas for the photo shoot and she didn’t let me down, they are perfect.
7. How did you find your photo shoot? What was the best part?
The photo shoot was great! Nikki and Jason made us both feel really comfortable. The location photo’s were awesome although the photos taken in the studio were amusing thanks to jakes cheeky sense of humour.
8. Now you have seen the finished product, what did you think?
They far exceeded our expectations. Cant wait to show our families.
9. Do you have a favourite shot?
I have many favourites but my particular favourite is the ones on the rug.
10. Do you recommend others to have pregnancy photos?
Definately, That 9 months goes way too fast and to have something to look back on in years to come is so worth it. No self taken “bump” shot will ever compare!
11. How long have you got to go?
1 week and 2 days, not that im counting!  =P
12. Have you got any advice to other mums to be?
Don’t focus so much on all the “not-so-nice”parts of pregnancy, instead enjoy all the good things it brings it will be all over before you know it.

Thankyou so much for sharing your pregnancy with us Skii. I cannot wait to be a part of his arrival into the world. xo

Another newborn to cluck over.

Isabella is just gorgeous !! She loves cuddles, she loves to be talked to, she loves to wrap you around her finger I think. She is so cute she is irresistable. I photographed her Mummy and Daddy’s wedding and that makes documenting their new family that little bit extra special.

Isabella gave us the perfect photo shoot. She had just the perfect amount of awake, wide eyed grin time combined with a dreamy sleep stage when we got the super cute poses. The poses were a big bonus because it is virtually impossible for a 7 week old to let me move them around so much when they are asleep. A bit of baby whispering was all it took :-D . My favourites are the ones on Dad’s back. She snuggled in and was perfectly content, I think she would have stayed there all day if she could.

I know his Mummy will be waiting to see how I write this blog post.

This little man has been the only baby to completely beat me. I can be a stubborn person in the sense that I will persist and be as patient as required to get the shots I need from a newborn. Many a time I am told how patient I must be to sit and pat or rock or cuddle a bub until they drift to sleep. It is pure determination to get those cute shots.

Then I met Hunter. He is one little guy that at 8 days old was much smarter than me! (Yes the frustration at being outsmarted by an 8 day old !!) After 4 and a half hours in the studio he did not want to go to sleep at all. I do however have sleepy pics. The camera can make us believe that he slept and posed and did everything we could have possibly wanted but really, no. Hunter did not want to miss out on his photo shoot one little bit !! Here is his sleepy pics:

To me, these next ones show the real Hunter. This is the 8 day old baby who I met. I am totally blown away that at EIGHT days he is holding his head up like this. These are straight unedited shots. I was manipulating Hunter into the position I wanted him when he took over and showed me how it was done all on his own. He looked straight at the camera and virtually said, “take my photo”. Yep, we were all blown away. This little man is going to be very smart, I swear he has been here before!

042Thank you Daina & Ryan for introducing Hunter to me. He is totally gorgeous, adorable, handsome and has a personality that I can’t wait to see develop over the next 12 months. xo
