Yes it seems a little crazy but my fellow photographers will understand the feeling. The photography world gets completely insane and while everyone gets a break over Christmas and New Year, we work all the way through. Wedding season doesn’t really get a break until we hit the colder months now which means winter is the time for us to recharge, regroup and relax a little -  the same as starting the New Year.

We have just come back from our first family holiday. It is insane I know, but we don’t get the chance to get away. We actually rarely take lunch breaks so holidays are not heard of. Now the kids are getting older, I feel it is really important to have family time and that means just one week a year I plan to have the family holiday. This year we started the ball rolling with a trip to the Gold Coast. What an amazing time. It was exactly what was needed for us to get recharged.

Now we are back, we are straight back infront of the computer screens. Finishing off an incredibly huge number of portrait and baby shoots I didn’t get to edit before we left and the weddings. With that little recharge I am feeling superhuman and am getting work completed like never before !!  So blogging will resume. Winter is our time for catch up, to get all those jobs out while we have some free weekends (well sort of). The next 18 days we work straight but that’s cool because I have my “just come back from holiday” feeling and I am ready to tackle the work head on!

So to start the ball rolling, here is a sneak peek of a wedding that didn’t get to the blog before we left. This is Tracy and Christian’s wedding. They chose the gorgeous Bowers Cafe for their wedding and it is one of my favourite places. Especially for that smaller intimate wedding,  it is the perfect venue. Tracy looked absolutely stunning as you will see. Gorgeous hair, gorgeous makeup and a stunning gown. What an amazing bride. Not to forget handsome Christian of course. Just the perfect couple !!

Dear Blog,

Sixteen weddings in 8 weeks !!  That is the reason why I ignore you sometimes. After photographing a wedding there is;

2 hrs of downloading files to multiple hard drives, 3 hrs running through editing process for blog pics, 1 hr of resizing photos for blog, 8 hrs of colour management and editing for printing, 2 hrs getting album layout proofs designed, 1 hr sorting and putting photos into albums

That gives a grand total of 19 hours for one wedding from start to finish. Phew !! So you can imagine dear blog after 16 weddings in eight weeks I am very tired, very behind in blogging and do neglect you. We are going off on a break though and when I come back I will be back to fine form and ready to invest quality time into you. Let’s call it a ‘recharge and recovery’ and I can’t wait !!

One of  last weekends wedding was Katie & Joe’s amazing day. It felt like one big family gathering, well a massive family gathering with 165 people !! There were five couples who we have already photographed their weddings. Katie and Joe are so well loved by so many people. You could see the delight on everyones faces when Katie walked down the aisle. It was obvious that every person who was there holds both Katie and Joe very deeply in their heart.

With so many little ones in a bridal party you would think it would be chaos. The flowergirls and pageboys were the sweetest, most well behaved kids you could imagine. It is a credit to Katie and Joe, the bridal party and the parents of the kids. The littlies walked down the aisle so proudly and you could see they took their jobs very seriously.

Congrats Katie and Joe. Your wedding day went perfectly. It was honour to capture your day, you made it all so easy. xo

Emily was one bride who knew style. From the moment Jason and Rhiannon entered the room, they knew this was one bride who had it all together.  Every detail had been well thought and planned so the wedding day ran seemlessly.

It is always special when the bride and groom plan their day around places and people that have significant meaning to them. With all the decisions to be made for the big day. Emily and Lachlan had no trouble selecting where they wanted to be married. Harry’s Lookout was one of their first date locations and now that place will always have a special place in their lives and I don’t blame them, it is beautiful.

The lighthouse and Roto House were chosen for their location shoot and the weather was perfect. The overcast weather made some gorgeous light and the photos speak for themselves.

It really stands out when people do something different and the rooftop of the Mecure Centro is somewhere we had never been before. The place is spectacular and everyone had a fantastic night. Jason and Rhiannon set up the crazybooth and the guests had a blast. Brilliant entertainment for all !

Louise & Adam chose their hometown of Coopernook to be married. They planned a ceremony and reception that totally suited them - casual, hassle-free and relaxed. With their closest family and friends with them, they celebrated the beginning of their lives together as husband and wife and also the impending birth of their first child. It’s not long to go now until the little bundle will be here to meet everyone!

Congratulations Louise & Adam.

I know that Lee will have been patiently waiting on these, especially since I gave her a taste the other day.

There was something special when I received an email saying, “This is a very private ceremony with no guests.. just 2 witness,us & our 4 children”

I just knew this wedding would be something very unique and focused on true love. Lee and I corresponded all through email, sending her sample pics of different locations and deciding what place would sum up them in their pics. I didn’t get to meet Lee until 5 minutes before she walked down the aisle but as soon as I did I instantly felt relaxed and comfortable. She is extremely down to earth, a loving Mum and the type of wedding she had planned seemed to sum them up perfectly.

The look of love on Dave’s face when she walked down the aisle was pure amazement and joy. He felt like the luckiest man alive. I could tell they have been made for each other, as their personality gels so well. It is also tear-jerking when a man struggles to get through his vows. There is just that moment when you struggle to stay composed and you really know that this wedding is all about the right things, just two people who adore each other.

Thank you Lee & Dave for sharing your wedding with us. It was an absolute pleasure.

Resolutions. Why does that word have a sense of failure as soon as you say it? We all start the year declaring to be a better person, complete things we have been meaning to do etc etc. I think resolutions can be a good thing as it makes us stop and evaluate where we are heading in life. It gives you the chance to change if you aren’t happy and focus on exciting new adventures.

I have kept my list short so hopefully it will be achievable. No grand statements that I know I will never achieve. Just ensuring I have time to enjoy things that mean the most.

1. Take photos weekly. This is an easy one for everyone else’s children, but as fellow photographers know, we forget about our own. This is the final year before my first born starts school and I am feeling very uneasy about that. This year I want to ensure I document my “baby boy” before he hits that school gate.

2. Manage time better. This is both personally and professionally. I have a lot of plans in place to manage this one but only time will tell.

3.  Limited alcohol. This one has been underway for the last month and a half and I am nailing this one. A big night out made me vow to not do it again and therefore I haven’t had a drink since Nov 21. Yep that date is etched in my head. I am not saying no alcohol ever, just one or two every now and again sounds a much better option.

4. Continue at the gym and lose those last kilos. I joined the gym on Sept 1 and I am impressed to date how well things are going. This year I vow to return to my wedding weight and it looks very achievable.  Woohoo !

5. Take our first holiday. We never take time off. We never have a lunch break let alone a holiday and this year we are planning our first. In winter which is the usual wedding “off” time, we will be going on our first holiday and is looking like an overseas one. Cannot wait !

That is my small list. How about you? Pop over to the facebook page and let me know if you have any resolutions.

No post is complete without a photo so here is a sneak of the NYE wedding we photographed. More from this wedding to follow soon …
